CASE STUDY - DWELL AT VUE

Dwell at Vue is an apartment rental community located in Old Town San Pedro with easy access to Long Beach. It is a modern yet comfortable space with impressive views of its surrounding areas. The Vue offers the best of all amenities which include a state of the art fitness center, sparkling pool, cabanas, yoga studio, and a rooftop deck with a full bar and lounge areas.

With a resort-like feel, Dwell at Vue is more than just an apartment building. It is a sanctuary for the mind, body and soul. With the use of all the combined materials in this project, Style Interior Design was successful in accomplishing this desired atmosphere.

The reception/lobby area has a mixture of crisp white materials which are stone flooring, Glass concierge desk and plastic laminate on the concierge desk as well. Warm tones were added to the wooden wall paneling and paint for an overall inviting feel. The stone floor in the lobby is:
MFR: American Stone Company
Style: Odyssey Crystallized Glass - Polished finish
Size: 24"x48 and 48"x48

The white plastic laminate (PLAM) used at the concierge desk is:
MFR: Formica
Style: Colorcore - White 949C-58

To bring in warmth against the striking white, wood paneling was used throughout:
MFR: Teragren
Style: Vertical Grain Panel-Dark Caramelized

Also, the concierge desk was made out of a beautiful clean white color glass:
MFR: Bendheim
Style: WVCU-4 Color White
Non temperable glass

The paint was also a warm tone which again created the warmth which was necessary in this space:
MFR: Sherwin Williams
Style: SW2841 Weather Shingle

The lighting pendant was a brilliant addition to this modern/sophisticated space.
Although it comes in a variety of colors, this particular space called for a clean/clear glass:

Style: Energy Kinetic 7222-22210 Atom
Size: Broadloom

The desire of Style Interior Design was to create a clean, spa-like feel when you first step foot into the lobby door. I believe they accomplished that idea, starting with the lush white draperies hanging high in the lobby as well as in the adjacent lounge.
Drapery fabric:
MFR: HBF
Pattern: Gossamer
Color: 107-11 Moon

The sofa fabrics and pillows are the following:

Sofa Body Fabric:
MFR: Textus
Pattern: Gradient Solid
Color: Safari

Sofa Back Pillows:
MFR: Pindler & Pindler
Pattern: 9357
Color: Travis/Snow

Throw Pillow Fabric:
MFR: Kenneth McDonald
Pattern: 180387H-6 (589)
Color: Gold

The wallpaper used throughout the lobby and lobby corridor is a playful offset of purples and golds/shapes and simplicity all tied in together.

MFR: Colani
Style: Col 769327
Pattern: Drop Skin 29.5"W

“A Little History Lesson”
“Luigi Colani is known as the ‘Master of the Curve’. His wallcovering designs are based on the premise that all life comes from water, from drops to flowing wave formations, with glimmering effects and iridescent colors. Richard J Anuszkiewicz, whose work has been exhibited at the Biennale in Venice and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, views his art as a continuous process. American born, with Polish ancestry, he is among the originators of Op Art, a style of painting concerned with visual sensation and the effect of optical illusion. His wallcoverings reproduce his original works. Born in Egypt, Karim Rashid describes his own style as ‘sensual minimalism’. His creations give a perceptible, cozy feeling while his designs deviate from all strict lines. “I want to change the world” is the self-confident motto of Karim Rashid, who is the leading figure in the fields of product, interior, fashion, furniture, lighting design and art.”                             - www.colani.com-

The fitness area flooring was made from a beautiful resilient flooring product.
MFR: LG
Style: Naturelife/Oak NLA8126
Size: 72"W / 25yds long

Apart from all the other flooring materials that were used throughout this project, tile was also used. It was used mainly in the restrooms.

MFR: Royal Mosa
Style: Roman Terra
Size: 18"x18"

Even though this project turned out beautifully, like all projects typically, there were some issues post installation with the white stone flooring in the lobby. When the stone was specified, the designer made sure the stone met the co-efficient of friction, and indeed it did. However it was also used outside the front door of the building and when it rained it no longer had the same value it needed to have for slip resistance. So as a lesson to be learned, just because you use a flooring inside and it meets the standards, it does not mean it will identify in the same way in a different application, such as outdoors where moisture will most likely come into play.

  3. Wow. The lobby seems very luxurious and modern and the poolside area makes me feel as if I'm in Tokyo, Japan with its futuristic design. I do wonder if echoes can be heard because the ceilings are high and exaggerated. The two white chairs in the lobby seem uncomfortable to sit on. If the lobby if often filled with guests, I think it'd defeat the purpose of having those two white chairs--bothersome.
